Horrible Service
by chrisdlux
My husband took me for dinner here one night, bragging about how great the food was when he was there few years back. When we came in, it was about 8:40 pm and we were greeted by the server oddly asking if we were having food. Our response was "yes" and he gave out this huge sigh that made us feel as if we were an inconvenience. He took us to the table and then told us that we have about 10 minutes. I immediately looked at my cell phone to check out the time and started wondering what time they stop serving dinner. I just find it odd to stop serving at 9pm, especially during the summer. He came back about 10 mins later to take our order. My husband ordered sweet potato fries with his burger but when the food came he got French fries. His medium rare burger? Charred to a crisp. We are really not the type of people who would make a big fuss about little things like that. We felt bad to ask them to change it since we know that the kitchen is already closing. But the whole service was just horrible, I had to get up to get my hot sauce on their service stand and our sodas remained unfilled most of the time. And to top it all up, when we get the bill, there seemed to be an extra charge for the sweet potato fries that my husband didn't get. That's when my husband came up to the server and inform him nicely that he actually didn't get the sweet potato fries. He responded, "Oh, it's actually the same price, so it doesn't matter." What a horrible waiter!! Don't you get it?? You made a mistake and the least you could do is apologize.
WE ARE NEVER COMING BACK!!!

Could it get any better! Amazing breakfast and great live music.
You have to know what you are getting in to though... if you don't like the band at night it's hard to escape.
- Pros: B-fast- Local music
GREAT Food, Disgusting Atmosphere
by hage0269
Seriously, this place is GROSS! I love the food. Add in the inexpensive aspect as well as the GENEROUS sizing, this is a keeper. I love it. Parking and ambience are awful but the food is so worthwhile!
Breakfast is the best.

The Uptown Bar and Cafe is fantastic. Breakfast is a favorite. The helpings are large, the prices are reasonable. The hashbrowns are awesome (a requirement for me) the eggs are cooked to requested lack of runnyness as hoped for, and the service is always consistantly good. It's one of the great places in town to see what new amazing combinations of outfits the girls who work there can come up with. There is a wide range of clientelle from families with little kids to groups of people not concerned about gender. Everyone is friendly, and you are assured a glass of water being delivered to you within a couple of minutes of being seated. The indoor seating is cozy and has booths available (a must for us), and the outdoor is right along the sidewalk front for great people-watching. I say two thumbs way up !
- Pros: seating/booths, cozy, service, food
- Cons: with parking you may need to walk a bit.

Best Breakfast, Best Bloody Mary, Best Service, Best Staff
by kml1977
True you may not find the big names playing at the Uptown like in the old days, but the quality of the food is fantastic. I have yet to find another restaurant in the cities with such a large and diverse menu. The staff is fantastic and friendly, the food comes out fast considering how many bodies are packed in the place, the selection of vegetarian options is great for such a meat loving place. However, the best of what the Uptown Bar has to offer is the atmosphere - one of the only "neighborhood" bars left in Uptown, over half the people who come in are "regulars" (some come daily, some come once a month). The staff know a lot of names and faces that come in those doors and that's hard to find these days.
- Pros: Food quality, service, portions, friendly atmosphere
- Cons: crowded, loud at night when the music is going
best hang over greasy food and bloody mary's
by jmfix
My girlfriends and I make the Uptowner part of our "Sundays after going out for Saturday night birthdays" a tradition. We order rounds of bloody mary's (you get to take home the glasses!) and skillets, omelets, sandwiches, whatever. The servers are always great to us, even if we're rowdy and stay for 8 hours straight (which we always seem to do).
- Pros: Cures hang over blues
- Cons: Can be crowded, limited parking
This rock-and-roll diner's grungy booths are filled with the ghosts of Minneapolis' punk rock past.

In Short
In the days of yore, the Uptown Bar and Cafe was the boozy, rock-and-roll heart of this hip neighborhood. It still is to many music lovers, and it remains the place to spy local and visiting musicians drinking coffee and devouring plates of pancakes. The place is famous for its tall, strong bloody marys and all-day breakfast items, which is perfect for those who don't get up at the crack of dawn--or anywhere near it.

Never again Dreadful sound system- distortion was all I could hear. The bartender was an a$$ to me and my friends- and they do not take credit cards- but they do have an ATM that doesnt work!!! My best friend loves there breakfast, but Im not willing to try it after the service I was given at night.
- Pros: Patio
- Cons: Many things (read the review)
Best Bloody Mary's
by tjohnson125
Hung over? I can't think of a better place to go. Greasy food and kick-but Bloody Mary's. Although very crowded, I would bet there is no place in MPLS that sells more liquor on a Saturday and Sunday morning.
- Pros: Fantasic crowd on Weekend Mornings
