Amazing place, wonderful atmosphere, great food and service
by kellyofkansas
I have seen a lot of complaints about the service, but maybe they have changed staff since then? I moved about 6 months ago to just a block away from this place. Needless to say, I have been in there many, many times and have NEVER had one single issue with service or the staff. They are always overly friendly and extremely helpful and nice. ALWAYS! By now I am sure I have met the entire staff that works there. I also have never had a meal that I didn't like! All the food is absolutely delicious and a great place to bring friends and family. My grandmother fell in love with this place, as have many others I have brought. I have no complaints other than it tends to have some weird hours at times, so it might be worth giving them a call to see if they are open before making the trek there.
- Pros: Unique ice cream, great food, best atmosphere in town
- Cons: weird hours
Best patio in Twin Cities
by rafaella1
Whenever I want to treat myself and pretend I'm in Europe, I go to Crema. The surroundings are beautiful and casual. The ice cream is an experience in smoothness. I'm not sure why others have said the help is sub-par. I've always been treated great and I often go alone. It is a more casual place; don't expect a lot of attention. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you but that's about it. More than enough in such a small place with, oftentimes, only one person staffing it. I love Crema and hope they're around for a long, long time!
- Pros: Best Patio, small, European cafe style, interesting food choices, ice cream to die for.
- Cons: You'll have to get up after the meal to get your ice cream...but I don't really consider this a con in such a small, casual place.
European Romance in the Twin Cities

I have been nothing but impressed with this place! The food is fresh and absolutely wonderful and the service staff is always helpful. My boyfriend and I have deemed this "our place" and we try to go there once a week. Some of the ice cream flavors seem off-the-wall but have amazing flavor without being over the top (the Organic celery sorbet was a personal fave!) The patio feels like you are sitting at a cafe in Italy and is a great escape w/ a glass of fair trade/organic wine. Definitely check this place out. Those who are giving it all 1 star and saying that the service was poor all signed in on the same day. Coincidence? Or a bitter customer trying to sabotage the rating. Give it a try!
- Pros: Patio, Ice Cream, Wine, Accessible
- Cons: None
Friendly and Tasty
by okie123
This place has great food, wine, atmosphere and of course the BEST ice cream. I think everyone who is complaining about the staff is crazy. I live in the neighborhood and have been there a lot and been treated great every time. The staff is friendly and helpful, people who are picky, bitter and unhappy are the ones complaining about the service.
- Pros: organic, tasty, beautiful garden
This Old World-style cafe delights customers with live music and some of the best ice cream in town.

In Short
Famous for its Sonny's ice cream, this little European-style café serves up heaping scoops of charm and style. Boasting one of the best boulevard gardens in town, along with an exclusive patio sprinkled with Italian-countryside allure, Crema has an old-world sweetness unlike any Uptown café. Of course, the ice cream here is the real topper. But Crema changed its menu in summer of 2008, and is now serving to-die-for Panini, pastas and pizzas along with an extensive wine and cocktail list. Sit inside and enjoy the cloud-painted ceilings and Verona-inpired décor. Or dine outside in a cozy environment that could melt your heart, but not your scoop of the restaurant's famous crema ice cream.
Not very good

Overpriced bad tasting ice cream. Went there and was not impressed at all. 5.95 for two small scoops, I will never return. I read other reviews alot of them seem to be well below average. It seems like they need to work on some things if they dont want everyone to stop going there.
Best Ice cream in town

Crema Cafe is a Twin Cities gem. Tiny and full of character, it offers some of the best ice cream anywhere. This is the home of Sonny's Ice Cream and they make all their flavors in small batches by hand. Fruit sorbets in particular are intensely flavorful. The menu is quite limited - this is a small cafe/ice cream place, not a big, fancy restaurant. I had dinner there last night with a party of 8 and we found the service good, the staff friendly, casual, and funky in an Uptown sort of way. Summer evenings end blissfully with a trip to Crema Cafe.
One thing I like about Sonny's ice cream is that it is not sweet and gooey like so many others. It's more delicate and exotic. They rarely have anything that has gobs of caramel, chocolate, butterscotch, or marshmallow.
HORRIBLE!!!

Beware! This place clearly thinks it's too special to serve customers the way a professional establishment should. If you like going to eat at a place where you're treated like an annoyance just for being there and making them ACTUALLY WORK, then maybe this is the place for you. otherwise, I'd steer clear of it. The food is not worth the crappy attitude floating around this place. yuck!
what happened?
by synenel
I used to enjoy this place. the food was great and I never thought I'd have any complaints.
I recently went for dinner and was sorely disappointed by the quality. I'm not sure if the staff they have hired is new, but there was a typical "uptown snobbery" that i hate to see ruin this wonderful part of minneapolis.
They've gone downhill in my mind.
- Pros: none..
- Cons: food, serivce
I Agree!

I took my wife here for the date night and was told very nice things about this place.
when we arrived, immediately we were treated poorly from the employees. The food was very good, but the
service was so terrible, it ruined any chance of a fun evening.
