Will Lie to You by Jeffrey L. at InsiderPages

My car stopped without warning (timing belt broke). I was told if I got it in the garage ASAP (late one Wednesday afternoon) that it could be looked at immediately. 1 1/2 days after the car was in the garage (excluding a 1 day holiday) I called to inquire about the status of my car. I was told there were four cars ahead of mine (when did they arrive?!). Eventually, I was told by the Service person that the timing belt broke and would cost between 1500 and 2500 dollars, depending upon the damage discovered. I asked three times in order to confirm the upper limit of the price quoted and it was confirmed. I was asked if I gave my permission for the work to begin, which I did, and was told work would be done in approximately three days. One day later the same service person calls to inform me that the price is now 3,700 dollars, despite the fact that we already agreed to a price of no more than 2,500-upon which I premised my acceptance of the work to be done. In our later conversation, the service person did not deny the that he quoted and I accepted that the work was to commence on Saturday but on Monday called it an estimate. A deal was already struck and I had already rented a car, based upon the work schedule quoted by Parents Auto that I accepted and was to already have begun a full day earlier before the new quote was received. In order to resolve this issue I requested on two occasions to speak with the owner who the same service person claims is at the doctor's and has no idea when he will return. The same service person is now flip and evasive about when the owner will return so that the matter can be resolved-now I get the cold shoulder and the choice, If you want to pick it up, it's here for you to take.I had work done at parents about one month earlier (approximately $1,000) and dealt with the owner whom I found fair, communicative and presumably honest. Added services not wanted, most likely did unncessary work

They diagnosed something that was probably not broken and I stupidly did not get a second opinion. They also added several items to the work order that were not requested or approved by me or my wife after getting a written list of things we wanted done. I'm never going back.
- Pros: Quick service
- Cons: Deceptive
Been going there for 30 years and I won't go anywhere else.

Very reliable. Done right, done honestly and done on time. If the work is not worth doing because of the age or condition of the car, they'll tell you and recommend an alternative.
