I've been to Curran's many times and find it very hard to believe the management would react in such a way as some of the 1&2 star reviewers have suggested. Maybe the folks who hate this restaurant were looking for a dive to hang out at as they came down off their drugg induced high, and instead picked a good family restaurant instead of Denny's, I-Hop, etc... That matter aside, Curran's has decent food and it's very reasonably priced. The Corn Beef hash has to be one of my favorites, and the waiters are generally very prompt to refill your coffee or beverage. My girlfriend once ordered a omelet that wasn't cooked completely through... The waiter replaced it with one made right without any issues, hassles, or problems. Over all, this is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast or lunch when I'm in the South Minneapolis area.

After being seated, I waited nearly fifteen minutes for water and a waiter/waitress. The food was just awful! Believe me, you're better off going to Culvers for your lunch or dinner. Oh, the staff is about as apathetic as one can be. I gave it two stars instead of one because it was the Saturday before Easter. I would not return if the food were free.
Pros: Food is reasonably priced
Cons: Indifferent wait staff, poor quality food.

I visited this restaurant on a Friday night in March 08. Most of the guests were on oxygen. I can see why it's popular with the older crowd...they have no tastebuds and don't care about flavor! I ordered a "real" turkey sandwich on white bread. I even double-checked with the waiter that it would be "real" turkey (not deli sliced)...he confirmed. The order arrived and it was deli turkey on two slices of wonder bread with GOBS of miracle whip (not even the real stuff!). I was so disappointed that I asked the owner/manager to come to my table. I explained the situation and he just said, "It is real turkey." And walked away. He didn't care at all. The waiter never returned. They didn't ask how my meal was. They weren't surprised when I left the entire meal, virtually untouched on the table. You'll get more value and flavor at a hospital cafeteria and the clientèle will be similar!
Pros: No wait to be seated...
Cons: Everything!

I have lived by the restaurant for almost 30 years. Since I started going there my visits have been steadily increasing. For the last 6 years (as I am getting older and don't cook at home as much), and since they got the new chef, I go there about 3 times a week. I have enjoyed every meal. It's a lot better than Denny's, but it's also a lot closer. It can get crowded Sunday mornings and around most meal times so I go a little later. I can't believe how much I like the spagetti and meatballs. They have famous hamburgers, and the potroast is much better than mom's (sorry mom), and it's not as salty. The breakfasts are great and available any time. Personally I think the steaks are too big, and I'm a MEAT person. The cole slaw is excellent. (The salad has more than 3 ingredients, and the creamy dressings are mouth watering. The oil and vinegar bottles should be cleaned off more often, however. I've told them about it.) I have gotten to know the help, managers and owner pretty well and they are all very nice people. The bad ones do get canned. They stay on top of the cleanliness thing. I have had a tour of the kitchen and basement and it is very clean. I'll probably be going there again tonight as it is expected to rain so I can't grill.
Pros: Great selection, attentive staff.
Cons: The ones who pick up the dishes can be a little noisy.

I had heard of Currans because the nursing home we volunteer at has often taken the residence there for lunch. We stopped on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. I had Fish and fries and my boyfriend had a sandwich and soup. We both found the food to be fresh and good. The atmosphere was also enjoyable. As others have noted, it's seemed to be primarily people who lived in the neighborhood. Our waitress was very friendly. We were seated upon entering and our food brought out in a reasonable amount of time. I had seen a Coconut Creme pie under glass by the register when we came in. It looked so delicious. When I asked the waitress if she liked the pie here, she said it was wonderful and that the pie I was eyeing had been made only hours earlier. I ordered a slice, of course. I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this pie, and I've had MANY pies in my day. And to reference an earlier comment, we did not see any rodents, nor was the management in any way distracted, disrespectful, or arrogant. There was an obvious manager on duty, who was near the counter most the time we were there. The only thing I can imagine is that the quality of food might depend on whose in the kitchen. Our food was delicous, and the prices more than reasonable. We came in with no expectations and had an enjoyable afternoon.
Pros: Desserts, lunch & Breakfast, ambience
Cons: I've heard it's busy on Sunday.

This restaurant is on the "Denny's" scale of restaurants but without the chain feel. It's an Irish family restaurant in the heart of a South Minneapolis neighborhood. The experience can't be beat when you don't want to cook at home and don't want to drive too far. My favorites are the hamburgers, and the french dip. The fries are a 10!! My husband loves their Monte Chirsto.

My wife and I dined here last Sunday night. I was looking forward to having a nice meal from a restaurant that had been around for so long. Little did I know that the food was below average. Stay away from the pork chop special of the week and their "fish and chips" style option. The pork could not have been cooked any longer and not be burned, it was unbelievably tough. The mashed potatoes were gluey and the reheated bread stick was the only decent part of the meal. My wife had the fish and fries. The tartar sauce that came out in a paper cup must have been pre portioned quite a while before they served us as the top was discolored and the cup was soggy. The fish was not great but it was obviously a frozen product, w/ frozen fries and previously frozen breadstick, it was what it was. Just not what we were hoping for from such a "landmark" restaurant. We ordered dessert after the waitress assured me they were made in house. Shortly afterwards my wife yelled out and I turned to see a rodent running into the corner of the wait station. I understand that these things happen and we passed on the desserts we ordered. What was the final straw was the manager on duty. There was no apology, no acknowledment of the incident, he just seemed indifferent. The man never said a word and handed me my credit card reciept. It almost seemed as though he thought we were trying to get something for nothing by fabricating a rodent story. Overall the food was not good, the waitress was nice, the manager was unattentive/uninterested in how we were doing or how our dining experience was & we will not return and certainly not recommend Curran's.
Pros: prompt seating
Cons: Mediocre food

First breakfast restaurant I have been to that served "cold cakes." Took forever for them to process my payment... poor service... nasty

Had the typical all American breakfast here and was very pleased. No frills, just real food. This is a hangout for the locals, and as an out-of-state visitor, I was treated very well. One of Curran family brought me my meal, a generous portion of eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. Coffee was OK, too, and I don't always like American coffee. The twin cities can be proud of this place! I'll be back!
Pros: Good Prices, Excellent Food, Friendly staff
Cons: waited for seating, difficult parking

Pretty basic family restaurant. The establishment is family run and the food portions are just right. It is a great place to bring kids too! They have weekly specials. Way better than Perkins; especially for the price!
Pros: inexpensive, good for kids
Cons: no alcohol beverages
