scam

by jp113

This rating is to warn people of the parking there. I walked across the street to get a blizzard after lunch and they had my car being towed. while this happaen they had 3 oters tied up with the towing service. The problem is the parking sign is at an angle you are not able to see when parking....they will release your vehicle for 50$ cash, so in that 15 minute time peiod they pocketed 200$ I think they make more on the parking scam then food and liquor.

GREAT beer and happy hour

by MaggieMayhem

I noticed many of the bad reviews were before the new owners took over. Now they have an excellent beer menu (many local brews, like Surly), and great events. Last night I was at the New Belgium brewery beer tasting and got to try 6 or 7 7 oz glasses of great beer for only 5 dollars! Plus a beer rep was there and he talked about all the different beers, answered questions, and gave out free stuff. Their happy hour is always going on when I'm there (it's got to be the longest happy hour in the city!) and I always get good service, even when they are really busy. I highly recommend it.

  • Pros: good happy hour, service, and great beer selection
  • Cons: It's a sports bar.

Great Beer Selection, awesome location

by MadamImAdam

Wow, don't be so hard on old Stub. Stub and Herbs has a ton of history and the new owners have definately done a lot to restore the place. The beer selection is great and probably second to only Wiliams Pub in Uptown. The food is much improved.

  • Pros: Beer Selection, great location
  • Cons: parking

Two stars and not one mostly because of location.

by Bucklaw

This IS NOT the place it once was. It's a mess. Dirty, poor service, and stale food. I do a lot at the University and probably end up here 2 or 3 times a year and it is always the same. In the old days it was a regular stop, now I try to avoid it. Go if you have to...it won't scar you for life...but don't feel bad if you don't think is as great as the hype.

  • Pros: Location near U of M
  • Cons: Dirty, poor service, sub par food.

Stub & Herbs is the #1 campus bar

by tousley4

WOW, what a renovation!!! Stub & Herbs has new owners and they cleaned house, it looks great in there. They also have a new menu and chef and have vastly improved the food.

Every burger lover should stop by, they now have the best burgers on the U of M campus.

  • Pros: The Food & The Beer List
  • Cons: Their image... I still think of the old Stub & Herbs, paking is not easy.

The very picture of a college bar, this is the U's unofficial heart.

In Short
Vintage megaphones and pennants dangle from the bar. Photos of Gopher triumphs deck the walls. Even the menu displays its school spirit, with a variety of sandwiches named for Big 10 schools and college-sports notables--favorites include the Purdue Boilermaker barbecue burger and the Clem Haskins grilled turkey. The beer list is long and features a great selection of local brews and imports on tap. Rack 'em up downstairs at the pool tables.

Horrible

by kbaum17

Not even close to the bar it was in the early 90's. The place is filthy and food is over-priced.

Good specials

by galewskj

I go to Stub and Herbs for their specials. Right now, tuesday nights have $2.25 tap beers and wednesdays are $3.25 25oz tap beers. That and their half price appetizers from 10 - 12 make this place a good choice. I would not come here if I had to pay full price for their drinks and appetizers ($10 for nachos??!)

Don't believe the hype

by standarsh

Stub & Herb's may be one of the most recognizable name around the U of M campus, but only because it's been around for so long. From an unfriendly staff to through-the-roof drink prices, Stub's provides anything, but an entertaining night. Even if you're the only person in the bar, don't expect good service. An huge shot list is about the only thing that gives this bar any credibility. Unfortunately shots are really only good for 21st birthday and Stub's really has no interest in making a birthday a good time. Two thumbs down

  • Pros: shot list
  • Cons: , expensive

antithesis of a college bar

by cpeagle

I went with a group of about 15 friends on my buddy's 21st. Being as we were nearly the only people in the bar, we expected a little service. We were wrong. The service was horrible and the drinks were way over priced. One of the bartenders tried to pick a fight with our sober driver because he was too busy talking with his girlfriend to serve us. And if this is the "best college bar", it certainly doesn't fit into the budget of most college students that i know.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: , expensive
