Good Memories

by healthedprof

The Times was my weekly after work happy hour place for almost two years. Kirsten, Molly, Leslie, Lana, Sherry and the rest of the wait staff from a couple of years ago were by far the best I've ever known. They all moved on and the service at the Times was never the same .... But the atmosphere remained great and the owner always took the time to say hello and let me know he appreciated my patronage. I have lots of great memories of nights at the Times and I will remember those days fondly.

  • Pros: atmosphere, happy hour

Poor service at Tmes restaurant

by steven40

The service at this restaurant is very ,very poor. The atmosphere is good but it will take you 15 mins just to get a drink, before you even order food. The manager acts like he knows everything. I told him my beer was flat, he said it was not without even testing it. The only good thing about this place is the music. The price and the service are awful. I would recomand WHITIE'S restaurant accross the street from Times. The food and the serice are good

Very disappointing, poorly managed

by mcfoodie12

Holds the honor of being the only restaurant to announce THREE hours after ordering that they're out of an item. We made reservations for New Year's Eve 1 month in advance. Our party of 6 promptly ordered the three-course fondue: cheese, oil and chocolate. After the main oil course was cleared away, our waiter announced they were out of chocolate fondue. No joke. The manager knocked a whole $5 per person off (a la carte, the choc. fondue is $14/person) our bill but failed to remove the automatic gratuity charge. We also received rain-check vouchers for chocolate fondue. After ruining our New Year's Eve, we don't want to give The Times a chance to ruin another evening. Shame on the management for not ordering enough of a non-perishable ingredient, waiting 3 hours to tell us they had run out and mishandling the bill.

  • Pros: Parking, music
  • Cons: Service, bad management

Terrific music

by inwoodreviewer

As a recent transplant from New York, I've been looking for a sophisticated spot with class and charm. The Times is definitely it. The music is terrific, and the prices are reasonable. If you're on a budget, though, go during happy hour when they have terrific specials. This place is really special.

DON'T GO HERE!!!

by sharda814

Tonight I had possibly the worst service I've ever had! After sitting for 15 minutes before anyone took our drink orders, my husband and I waited patiently for our wine and beer. After about 25 minutes, our drinks were no where to be found, and neither was our waitress. We politely inquired about their status with another waiter. Soon after, our original waitress came over and actually reprimanded us for "messing up the system" by asking another member of the waitstaff about drink orders we'd placed with her. Overall, we sat drinkless for nearly 45 minutes....at a place that calls itself a bar.

When our food eventually arrived, my husband's order was wrong. He sent it back, waited about 15 minutes, and was once again served a mixed-up order. After complaining to the manager, his meal was taken off our tab. However, our waitress still had the audacity to add an 18% gratuity to our bill - for a party of two!!! Beyond awful service and sub-par food make this one of the worst spots in town - avoid it at ALL COSTS!!!

Fondues, bellowing jazz tunes and Old World architecture define this historic riverfront bistro.

by Contributor

In Short
Pressed-tin Cathedral ceilings, deep mahogany woodwork, Art Deco décor and nightly live music attracts veterans of both the Cities' jazz and hipster scene-seekers. On a busy corner of Minneapolis' St. Anthony Main neighbrhood, large gathering tables nestle around the long carved-wood bar. Patrons dip into Fondue for Two, a culinary journey through melted cheeses, hot oil and chocolate or select made-from-scratch salads, rustic pizzas and Minnesota-style entrees such as the baked walleye.

Fun NE joint

by mmechou

Cool place for a date, with live music and dancing. Not to mention the fondue...Other food is great, too, but not the same appeal...

Best Chicken Wings

by c197933

Seriously, the BEST wings in town. Grilled and served with a dijon which i usually dislike. Goes awesome with these!! Fun atmosphere at night. Random music. Hate bluegrass but it's entirely fun and amuzing to watch. Afterward, head downstairs to another unique experience at Jitters.

Time hasn't been kind to The Times

by asparks

I truly feel sorry for The Times. Ever since the move across the river, it just hasnt been the same. They need to do a major rehaul of almost everything there.

The entire menu is lame. It needs a complete revamp. Tastless, severely overpriced, worthless. The service is incredibly odd too. There is basically nobody in there (patrons) and yet it takes forever to get attention. On my most recent (and last) visit there, the entree I ordered wasnt available and the waitress didnt tell me about it until 30 minutes after I had placed my order. There were 3 tables of customers in the entire place at the time (6pm weeknight). Completely pathetic.

The old bar side is fine, but the main dining room makes you feel like youre at a wedding reception at a rundown VFW hall. The two rooms simply dont jive.

  • Pros: woodwork @ the bar
  • Cons: food, service, prices

Go Elswhere for Jazz, Food or Drinks

by marcats

I stopped by to listen to the great Debby Duncan on a Tuesday. It's sad to hear her in such a tacky room. (It reminded me of a suburban hotel's meeting room...of course the reconstructed bar section is nice.) That the slow inattentive bar tender charged me $12.00 for a Dewars, did not warm me up to Times. The wait staff was exceptionally rude, and yes, inattentive.

There are other places in town for food and music/jazz. I've been to many where the staff is much more considerate and professional, and the room is less creepy. The Times is simply depressing.

I thought I would give the Times another try, but found it closed/out of business. I am not at all bothered to see this scary mess put out of its' misery. Down the tubes is an appropriate fate for the Times.

  • Pros: nice section of bar
  • Cons: ambience, service, price
