Whitey's ROCKS!!!
by Fasturd
I LOVE Whitey's. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Brunch whatever whenever I love this place. Genuine smiles on the staff faces. Great food. Rough interior but who cares when the food feels this good in your belly. Great booze selection and the largest scantilly clad woman in town.
Whitey's ROCKS!
Go and eat my friend.
- Pros: AWESOME FOOD, NOT pretentious.(if you don't know what that word means cross the street...)
- Cons: Stark, scary super big woman watches over your meal... = )
Not for Breakfast!
by rastrent
Good things first. Our server was lovely and attentive. The place was not busy at the time [11 a.m.] We asked the server for her favorite Breakfast items and we ordered up! We had the "Whitey's eggs" and the "Huevos Rancheros". AWFUL, with one exception. The English muffin was perfectly toasted as we requested. Let's start with the Whitey's eggs....it came on a giant platter with everything swirled together with melted cheese. The vegetables were not sauteed prior and the sausage had an off flavor. The temp was tepid. Now for the Huevos....very original! I have never had this dish prepared in this manner. It was very disgusting. Canned chilis, undercooked hashbrowns, cool eggs, and onions overpowered this dish. It was served in a tortilla and it was half browned. odd. I had to stop eating this. I wish I could go back and just order eggs and a perfect english muffin! If you are in this neighborhood, please go to the Red Stag. It is delightful! We normally go there, but had heard Whitey's was so wonderful! It is NOT. So, please try Red Stag OR stay at home. The mimosas were 6 bucks and refreshing.
- Pros: Nice Staff
- Cons: Terrible food
Not Dog Friendly! Rude staff
by meganrw1
My husband and I usually really enjoy Whitey's, but we went there last night to sit on the patio with our dog and the waitress very rudely asked us to leave because it was against city ordinance. This is not only untrue (according to the Star Tribune, an ordinance was passed on June 20 that allows dogs on restaurant patios) but we regularly see dogs dining on the patio all the time as we live around the corner. It was pretty embarrassing to get kicked out of a place because it isn't "dog-friendly". We probably won't be going there again.
Great drinks, cozy atmosphere, great service, great food!

When I walk into Whitey's I always feel welcome, it is darkly lit with a long bar and a great staff. They have a wide variety of different drink and food options and I highly recommend the tuna tataki and the chicken kabobs. So delicious!
- Pros: Great food, parking lot after 6.
- Cons: Gets pretty packed on Saturdays, but where doesn't?
TREATED BADLY AFTER YEARS AND YEARS OF BEING A REGULAR CUSTOMER
by tdaniel39
My wife recently attempted to reserve some tables for my 40th birthday today and wanted to drop off a few birthday decorations. Now, it's fine if bars and restaurants can't reserve tables but the waitress or manager that she spoke with on the phone was so rude, that we decided to move the party across the street to "Bulldog". We've been regular customers for more than 10 years and we have gone to "Whitey's" for the past five years for my birthday. Not only do we bring about 50 of our closest friends but we also spend a lot of money each year. Needless to say, we won't be coming back. So, if you're ever looking to plan a party there, get ready to be blown off! I am really disappointed.
a good spot

food good, love the patio and selection on menu. Great parking and location. Service was great also. I would go back again and again.
University kids, hipsters and locals of all ages love this neighborhood tavern, world famous or not.

In Short
Whitey's is welcoming and cozy, with high tables and a long bar. The spacious patio gets packed on warm days and evenings. Families flock in on weekends for brunch, and couples love to dine alfresco on Sunday nights. As the night goes on, an energetic crowd comes to this corner saloon. There's no happy hour, however there's above-average bar food, including baked artichoke and crab dip, hummus and great burgers.
BBQ? I'd give it a 3.5 out of 10
by threedoghouse
Now I'm from Oklahoma and I consider myself a bit of a BBQ snob. So I am ONLY reviewing their BBQ. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich and fries. After 35 minutes, I got my sandwich (with cold fries). Although the sauce was OK (I'd give it a 4.5), the meat didn't have the smokey flavor that brisket should have. It was somewhat dry and tough (hence the THIN slices). I got plenty of meat on my sandwich but it just isn't what I'd classify as authentic smoked brisket. Roast beef sandwich with BBQ sauce at best. The waitress seemed nice and helpful though. As of yet, I haven't had really great BBQ in the twin cities and I've tried between 6-12 places.
- Pros: Looks like a Decent BAR
- Cons: Should probably Drop BBQ from the Menu
GREAT Food and people watching!
by c197933
Typical Nordeast bar but excellent people watching bc you have old NE versus new NE. I mean all walks of life in this great city. Trash, yuppies, bikers, straight, and gay. Add in truly excellent bar food and what more could a person want? I usually get an appetizer (wings or pot stickers(now off menu)) and then the slow roasted beef sandwhich or chef salad or grilled cheese or burger. For brunch, I order biscuits and gravy with hash browns, ham and eggs. Magnificent spot!
- Pros: Food, People Watching
- Cons: Service Lacks

They have the best bar food in town. The menu top to bottom is outstanding. The meatloaf is better than I ever remember my Mom making(sorry mom). By far the best hamburger in town!
