Solid!

by Pleco at Citysearch

Aqualand has the best selection of freshwater fish that I've seen in the Twin Cities. The saltwater selection, while not vast, appears to be in good health. I'm a bit frustrated because they keep telling me that they are going to get some small piranhas in, but they haven't had any for some time. They always seem to have large piranhas, instead. These folks must have a lot of enthusiasm for what they do, if their gratuitous use of the outdated high-five is any indication.

  • Pros: Great tank prices and friendly staff.
  • Cons: Parking.

Great place for freshwater fish

by tammywllms1 at Citysearch

I am fairly new to fish-keeping so I really appreciate the friendly and knowledgable staff at Aqualand. Whether I know exactly what I'm looking for or need a lot of guidance, they have always treated me very well and provided great service. I've never felt rushed even though I've spent a lot of time walking around, considering my options, asking questions. They let you know a fish's temperment (aggressive, shy, etc) so you can make informed decisions about which fish you want to bring into your aquarium. My fish are all healthy and I wouldn't shop anywhere else for fish or aquarium supplies.

  • Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff; large selection

Worst place ever to buy fish

by TimOneal at Citysearch

This place is a joke they know nothing about salt water aquariums. They act like they do and will sell you anything to get the sale. SO if you want to waste a bunch of money on things that will not work for you then go ahead.

  • Pros: Sell things like a dirty car sales man
  • Cons: everything

An Amazing Store, And Staffed With Wonderful Friendly People.

by tucker02 at Citysearch

I have used this store through Goldfish, Tropical fish, Inverts, and Saltwater fish. Every question is answered without being made to feel ignorant. Not once in my experiences have I felt I was being pushed into a purchase. They willingly test your water and help you achieve a safe environment before moving into stocking your tank. But by far, the most lasting impression this store leaves on me is the courtesy they have given to me and my family as we loiter around enjoying the Aquarium Experience offered by having such an amazing amount of species to look at. Aqualand is a must for anyone thinking about getting into the hobby of fish keeping. Without them, I would be lost. Thank you.

Thanks Aqualand

by mistersinalin at Citysearch

I have been going to Aqualand since I was a kid and their big turtle, has always greeted me. A nice local business, the store has always helped me pick out the right mix for my tanks and prescribed fixes appropriately. Most recently, I had an issue with my filter. I thought I needed a new one, but they serviced it free of charge. I wouldn't deal with anyone else.

  • Pros: No nonsense service.
  • Cons: Only open until 6PM on weekends.

My favorite fish store

by RJames01 at Citysearch

After seeing a couple of the negative reviews on here I felt I should speak up. I have been going to Aqualand for some time now and it is easily my favorite aquarium shop. They probably have the best fresh water selection in the state (I personally haven't seen any better) and no matter what kinds equipment I need, they seem to have it in stock. They have a large variety of food and plants and their aquarium show room is easily the nicest around.

My favorite part about Aqualand is the staff. They are always friendly and eager to help. One thing that I have noticed is that when they ask "Can I help you?" they don't mean "Can I sell you something?", they really mean "Can I HELP you". On several occasions I have gone in to the store, thinking I needed to buy or replace something only to have them ask a few questions and give me some great advice - this last time I thought I needed to replace my filter so I brought it in with me so I could get a similar one. One of the staff asked if he could look at it, he then took it apart, cleaned it a little and handed it right back to me in working condition. I was ready and willing to spend $70 on a new filter that day, but they just cleaned my current one and gave it back to me - at no charge. They honestly and sincerely seem to care more about the fish and their customers more than the quick sale - So I really do not agree with the 'used car salesman' comments that I have seen here.

I do still shop around, but Aqualand is always my first choice for fish and advice, and it is where I end up making almost all of my purchases. I also have recommended plenty of friends and they are all happy with their purchases.

Give these guys a shot, you wont regret it.

  • Pros: Great selection of fish. Huge show room. The nicest staff of any fish store.
  • Cons: They close at 6PM on Saturdays - I prefer to shop a little later on weekends.

Check this place out

by pbowber at Citysearch

This is the best first store around. I've been to all of the other fish stores in the area and they can't compare to Aqualand. Aqualand has the best, most helpful staff around. They never tried to push anything on us, answer any questions we might come up with, and are always willing to take time to help us out. The other shops in town offer very little personal help. The shop is huge with a great variety of fish and anything else you might need for your tank. We have a saltwater and a freshwater tank and we get everything from Aqualand. In fact, while we're in the store we even pick up food for our dog and cats, they seem to carry it all. Don't let the bad reviews on this site turn you away. Their experience in nothing like we have ever had. We've recommended the store to lots of friends and everyone has been very happy with their experiences. Before you go anywhere else, check out this place.

  • Pros: Friendly & helpful staff, great selection, large showroom, not crowded
  • Cons: Parking could be better

Worst Firsh Shop

by JohnnyAppleSeed at Citysearch

The tanks are dirty and not kept up and the staff know nothing about the species, habitat, eating or living requirements of the animals, much less the prices! The store is very dirty and run-down from the outside and inside.

It is very disgusting that they keep a large South-American turtle inside in a tank so small that it can hardly turn around.

They are the worst of all the shops near TwinCities.

  • Pros: Can't Think of Any
  • Cons: Dirty, Unknowledgable Staff, Very Poor Treatment of Animals

Car Salesmen

by kirtJ at Citysearch

I went down to Auqaland couple days ago to shop for some new saltwater fish. Once I step into the store, these guys turn in used car salesmen. Every answer I give they try to push some other gadget that I know I don't need. So I spend 20 min trying to look at their selection while the guy kept selling, selling and selling. I ended up walking out with a bad taste in my mouth.

Aside from their bad salesmen, their tank does not look good at all. Each and every tank is overstock, making their fish looking very stressed and unhealthy. They also keep a large turtle within a poorly made tank that barely fits him, and he looks sooooo miserable. I really feel sorry for him, these Aqualand guys clearly doens't care about their animals.

  • Pros: NONE
  • Cons: Animal Cruelty, Very Pushy Salesmen, Hight Prices

Terrible Store

by SaltCrazy at Citysearch

I bought a tank from them last week thinking that it would be a good buy. The employee there sad that, up till the point of sale, it was being used by them as a freshwater tank, and that it was in good condition. COMPLETE LIE.

I had to clean it for 5 hours. That's how dirty it was. The tank could not possibly be in use, I found three spiders, yes SPIDERS. Also there were two LEAKS I had to fix, even though the worker a Auqaland assured me that there's absolutely not leaks. He said that the tank has been and was used as a functional tank up till the time of the sale. LIES!!!!

I called three times and explaining the problems, but they keep saying ALL SALES ARE FINAL, and wouldn't hear any of it.

So Let this be a lesson to me and YOU. Go some where else, like Wet World, Something Fishy, World of Fish, Saltwater Empire. They are all very close to Auqaland, most of them have better selection, and all of them have better service. Heck, even Petsmart and Petco are much much better.

Thank you for hearing my rant. For your own good, say away!!!

  • Pros: Close to DownTown Mpls
  • Cons: Lying Salesmen, poor saltwater selction, terrible quality in their product
