Outstanding Southern Barbecue; Best BBQ Chicken in the area
by mclaincausey
I had the spareribs and the chicken. The ribs were outstanding, but they were a little dry. The dryness takes them down a peg from the extreme top tier represented by Baker's Ribs and Qfanatic--but they are still very good and recommended. However, the chicken was a revelation; some of the best I've ever had, and certainly the best in the TC area that I've tried.
I like their sauces, I had them blend mild and hot (they call this "mot"). They have very friendly service as well.
- Pros: The CHICKEN!
- Cons: No real seating
What a waste of time!!!!
by tandjvo
Drove 30 minutes out of our way only to be told they were out of ribs for 45 minutes. Out of Ribs? At a Rib Joint? We won't waste our time again.
- Cons: don't keep their main item in stock
I don?t understand the hype about this place
by ozyigita
I am always searching for a good BBQ place, after trying so many bad BBQ places in Minneapolis I lowered my expectations. I am searching for a somewhat decent BBQ place in Minneapolis. Anyway, I went there today, I had the ribs which were so dry and no meat on them.I watched him cook the ribs and he was cooking them on the grill. I also had the steak sandwich which was good. I liked the guy, he seemed like a good guy.
- Pros: Good BBQ sauce
- Cons: Dry ribs
A strictly takeout joint for saucy ribs.

In Short
Inside, there are just two tables (and the chairs at one of them seem to be 90 percent duct tape), since most folks just get takeout. The menu is short and sweet: large and meaty racks of ribs, slathered with Scott's spicy, vinegary sauce, in mild, medium or hot. You can also order a half- or quarter-rack, barbecued chicken or a chicken-and-ribs combo. Bratwurst, steak and pork sandwiches are on the menu, too.
Ribs? I thought it was the bottom of a sneaker!

The other day my work brought me by Scotts. I had seen a high rating on city search for it so I figured I'd stop in (Around 8pm). I ordered a full rack. Took them home and first tasted the sauce. It tasted pretty good. Then I tried a rib. Dry, No Meat, Oven Cooked, and poor quality. I was disappointed but thought maybe it was to late and got a bad rack. I stopped there today at 11:15am figured get them for lunch. Got back to the office. SAME THING! I dont know about you but I feel that "just because you put some BBQ sauce on some meat don't mean its BBQ. For those of you who gave this a thumbs up, next time try Old County Buffet. I'm sure it's right up you alley.
- Pros: Good Sauce, Friendly Serice, Ma & Pop Feel
- Cons: Not BBQ, Oven Cooked, No Smoke Flavor
Best for catering parties
by jhnymac
I do alot of catering to offices and at home. Everyone LOVES the BBQ Pork sandwiches and twice baked potatoes. But, what you don't know is that Scott himself does shredded chicken sandwiches too!! It is to die for. But, you have to specially order it, it's not on the menu. The ribs have been hit or miss for me too, but the shredded stuff is always excellent and easy to order by the pound, and works great in crock pots for large events.
- Pros: taste, takeout, variety
- Cons: not open on mondays, not open on Tuesdays, no parking
Inspect the ribs before you leave!
by johnnybighit
Carry out only - i heard great things about this BBQ so i went there, the food was pretty good. the sauce was spicy and tasty. The slabs of ribs were pretty decent, meaty with lots of sauce. Second time I went there, the ribs were dried out, I mean Petrified dry. I carried out and didn't open the canister until I got home, so I didn't want to drive back 10 miles. So if you go to this place, open the ribs and inspect them before going out the door. $10 a person for half rack, pretty spendy for something you can't eat if you get the bad lot of ribs. I am shocked they even gave these away to someone to eat. Therefore, I have to rate them low. Quality always should come first and not meeting a deadline on getting an order out the door.
- Pros: Quick preparation, Tasty sauce
- Cons: Hit or miss on ribs, no room to eat in, Kinda spendy
Best ribs in the city
by kaj22
Scott's has the best ribs in Mpls. As other's have said you can miss the place if you don't pay attention and call ahead to order so you don't have to wait. The ribs are meaty, cooked to perfection and come with a midly sweet but spicy sauce. You can get mild, medium or spicy sauce. The spicy will cause the back of your neck to sweat! The twice baked potatoe is to die for. I hit Scott's up 2 to 3 times per month and it's well worth the drive from almost anywhere.
- Pros: The Ribs, Twice Baked Potatoe, Inexpensive
This place rocks!!!!

Never in my life have i felt so wonderful stuffing my face. The people there are so welcoming and friendly that its hard to leave once you've got your food. The ribs were spectacular not to mention the sauce. I would be content with this being the only place I ever eat out. When it comes to a comfy place to find a great deal, Scott-Ja-Mamas is the place to be. Thanks for giving the city a true feeling of home.
- Pros: people, food, fun
- Cons: not open sundays
a hole in the wall with bbq gold

Right across the street from the Gas station, you gotta look hard or you are gunna miss it. Call ahead, there is like no space inside to wait. The food is cheap and abundant (though I never got a twice baked potato the size of anyone's foot) For $5 you can get a huge pork sandwich (very very messy and wet) coleslaw,& a bag of chips. I've had the chicken and the ribs too but that sandwich is sooo good and reasonable that's usually all I get. They don't advertise, apparently they are at full capacity for what they can do in that space now... So the poeple that don't know never will-good more for me. I have no problem driving from maple grove to south minneapolis to get it.
- Pros: taste
- Cons: space
