User Reviews for Sawatdee - Bloomington

I've eaten at a handful of various Thai restaurants and always enjoyed the tastes and experiences, so I decided to stop into Sawtadee alone, hoping for a great meal and great service. I knew within the first minute that my dining experience would not be up to par with what I'd hoped. It took me over three minutes to be seated -- this was with only one other customer in the restaurant. I am mystified at the statement in the review above - "The lengthy specialty-drink menu includes such enticing libations as the Pattaya Beach and the Volcano martini." First of all there was absolutely no listing of beverages on the menu, and when I inquired, I was told there was only Pepsi products and iced tea, no alcoholic bevarages. The food was average, it was nothing special. I ordered a spicy chicken dish. It tasted like the equivalent of something that might've been packaged in a frozen dinner box and reheated. The server did not check on me other than bringing the bill. Overall I was very disappointed with my experience here.

Pros: Appropriate decor

Cons: Poor service, not so great food

Four sisters from North Eastern Thailand bought the restaurant in Sept 2004. The food is absolutely superb. I lived in Thailand for two year and Thai food does not get any better than this. This is Thai food exactly like they make it in thailand

Pros: Food, Taste, Price

Had dinner here a few nights ago. Have never tried any of their other locations. The only other Thai place I tried in the Twin Cities was Chiang Mai. Overall, the interior decor was ok, I thought it was funny that the ceiling looked more chinese then thai. The background music was pop, which does spoilt he ambience somewhat. We ate the rainforest curry, Thom Yaam soup and the Bangkok Seafood combination. I thought the rainforest curry too mild and tasteless. The Thom Yaam was excellent, although I would have preferred a little bit more 'kick'. The seafood dish was ok, the shrimp weren't too fresh. Overall, the bill was around $40 for 2 people. I think Chiang Mai is better. Service was fast and polite though.

Pros: parking, Service

Cons: slightly expensive, background music
